See this picture? This comes from a town in Canada where a 24 pack of water bottles is 104 dollars and formula milk for a baby is priced at 55 dollars a pack. What’s more, a pack of diapers is 95 dollars and one head of lettuce is 26 dollars. Inuit people are starving in a country known for it’s generosity.
If you don’t believe this is true, you can find more images like this here. This is the only grocery store these people have in their small towns, and many people are going hungry & elderly are dying faster.
You’ll send aid to foreign children that are starving, so why won’t you pay a little extra to feed the people in your own country who work hard & still can’t afford the prices for healthy food for their families?
Please have a heart and reblog this photo to raise awareness that even in our own countries people are starving, join the movement and show the government that we won’t sit by and watch people starve.
If you think this will make your blog ugly you’re wrong. Children in a first world country are getting sick & starving, and nobody is even aware it’s happening. You can let people know by reblogging and showing you care. People I am close to, my friends and future in-laws are going through this.

Love how little attention this post gets from my beach blog followers.

Ok I didn’t think this could possibly be for real, but I found a news source on the matter. This is insane.

YES, this is real.

the way the Canadian government treats the native people here is actually disgusting. The reserves sometimes have a lower life expectancy and the general living quality of third world countries. This isn’t common knowledge and it needs to be.

Not to say this isn’t a problem, because it is and it really does need to be addressed by the government, but there are a few things I’d like to make note of simply so people have a clearer picture of things. Back in high school we had an exchange program that had students travel up north for a week and I remember some of the stuff they talked about.
~You make a lot more money up north, about 33% more on average. So part of this pricing is inflation. Not all of it though. The amount of extra money doesn’t always cover the cost of living [Source] Nunavut is more average by this chart, but check out NWT and the Yukon. (Also StatsCan has Nunavut with a very high income (+40 000 more than Ontario) for families without children, but w/e)
~On average, families spend about $2000 more a year there on food than here in Ontario. It’s roughly a 20% increase (remember, they also make 33% more) [Source]
~One reason for high prices is these places are remote. Really remote. You can’t simply put food on a truck and drive it there. Transportation is difficult and costly.
~Prices are (at least in some places) subject to supply and demand. 2L of Coke might cost $10 after a recent shipment, but $35 when the store is down to their last bottle.
~The government is trying to fix these prices, if you check that news source, they implimented a new program in 2011 to subsidize and lower food costs. It helps, but it needs improvement.
The long and short of it. Living up north is tough, getting food there is difficult. It is a problem, we as a people need to do better, and our government needs to help more. Some of these prices are beyond reasonable. But please don’t look at these photos and these prices without understanding their context.
